A New Passion Project & Interior Inspo

07/31/2017

I’m pretty positive that if I didn’t have much discipline and didn’t need sleep, I’d have about 34893687 passion projects. There are so many things that I enjoy and feel passions for, obviously health and happiness being at the top of the list, and when I get to really exercise an area of passion, it truly sets my soul on fire.

Recently a friend bought a very charming house that needed a little love, and because he knew I loved interior design, he asked me to help him with design decisions as he fixes it up. To say I was excited might be the understatement of the year. I did a site-visit with him the next week and ever since I’ve been pinning my heart away, drawing color pencil mock ups in my sketch book, and dreaming up more ideas than he has rooms for. So today I thought I’d talk a little bit more about my most recent passion project and share some of the interior inspiration that’s been guiding my design choices for his place.

I have to admit it’s a little intimidating to help someone out with their house. It feels……. intimate. It’s the place someone will call home, deal with tough decisions, have people over, make wonderful memories, spend holidays……and I feel the pressure to make it a chic yet comfortable, updated but not overly modern, and perfect for their personality (while also agreeable to future buyers). Simple right?

Because this is an older home, I want to also highlight the charm that is apparent around every corner – thick baseboards, ornate window frames, doorknobs that I secretly want to steal every time we visit…. so balancing an update with that can be tricky. To solve for that, I’m planning very neutral tones, simple color palettes with interest driven by the patterns/textures and warming it up with woods and brass accents. Sound dreamy or what?!

Below is some of the inspiration that has been helping me on this fun new journey, this passion project that is giving me a taste of something I’ve always loved and now get to make a reality. Thankful for friends who trust my style and as I jokingly love to tell him, “let me build a home and life with them”.
